Personal History:

The Doctor

Eleven Specifically

Personality:

The Doctor has had several different personalities in the past. Every time he's had to regenerate the chemicals in his brain all get changed up giving him a brand-new personality, throughout all his regenerations though, The Doctor's essential personality has remained mostly the same.

The biggest thing about the Doctor is that he’s a traveler. Not just any traveler- a time traveler. He loves traveling through space and time to see history happen and keep it on the right track if someone or something should try and hold it back- advance it- or just plain try to change history. Something like take over the world, destroy it, or sell humanity into slavery. He usually keeps a traveling companion to see the universe for the first time through another person’s eyes. In one of the extra clips of the season five DVD there’s a brief moment where he talks to Amy about why he asked her come along with him. He finally admits that he ‘can’t see it anymore.’ This statement alone confuses the poor girl and he goes on to explain that ‘if you make all of time and space your backyard and fill it with things- what do you have? A backyard.’

The Doctor usually unwittingly lures his companions into thinking they are the person he trusts the most which- unfortunately, is not usually the case. In one of the who novels Rory, another companion, states that it’s the effect of the Doctor- he makes you feel like your the only one in the universe. Which is why he ended up having to explain to Amy the reason he has a companion. However, he is very fond of his companions, so he does trust them with a lot of things and that makes it easy to see where they would get the idea that they are the one he trusts most.

However, the Doctor is prone to lie when he feels it best suits his plan or idea. He’s not an easy person to fool but it is extremely easy to think you’ve fooled him. He’ll lie about helpless situations, plans, his real intentions, his true thoughts, and even his own death. Along with lying, he seems to be rather avoidant with certain questions. When asked if he had ever had kids he was quiet a moment and then changed the subject. If there is a tactical advantage involved- the Doctor will lie.

He’s also just a little on the conceited side. This is evidenced several times throughout the series but a specific example would be during Vampires of Venice when he snuck into a school and came across his own reflection- which he then complimented. But, he has reason enough to be vain, he is, after all, usually the smartest thing on the planet he happens to be visiting and he’s usually all too aware of it. He’s quite convinced no one but another Timelord and very select few could ever hope to compete with him as far as intelligence goes.

The Doctor doesn’t mean to be, but he can come off rude. He can spill out insults and not realize that’s what he’s done all the while sounding very fond of the person he just insulted. He also can come off as a bit of a nutcase- he can talk at ninety miles a minute and most people can’t keep up and see his rambling as complete gibberish- when there actually is logic behind it.

The Doctor also enjoys talking to anyone with ears. He’s a very friendly time lord and as a whole he loves the human race. The thing is- once the Doctor starts talking he probably won’t stop. Most of the time he rambles about anything that will cross his mind- past adventures, planets, the past, the future, where he learned to do something, or just anything he finds to be remotely appropriate. As much as he enjoys talking at people- he also likes to talk to them and learn about others- he finds humans and other people in general to be fascinating. He’s also said himself that he has never met anyone that wasn’t important before.

But don’t let the goofy, friendly alien fool you! Eleven has some anger issues. He’s been around over 900 years and he’s seen things a person should never see. He’s lost people he cares for, he’s had to destroy species, fight old friends, stop the world from being destroyed a number of times, And even had to destroy his own planet-. So yes, Eleven has a few anger problems.

“Soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared Being in all the Cosmos.” In ‘the Pandorica Opens‘ The Doctor states the Pandorica was said to hold the most feared thing in all the universe. It’s later revealed that there’s nothing in the Pandorica until the Doctor himself is forced into it. Yes, The Doctor is the most feared being in all the cosmos. He’s done countless things he’s not proud of and through the years became the thing that monsters fear. If something is being done that the Doctor doesn’t like- he will put an end to it. He never carries a gun, he's not intimidated by firearms and much prefers the peaceable approach. This does not mean won't respond with violence if a peaceable approach can't be reached. He does what he has too and never looks back.

-The Wrath of The Time Lord: Being over 1200 years old the Doctor has seen and done things he's not proud of. He's let people die and planets burn, even had to destroy his own home planet in the last great time war. He is the very last of the timelords and while he does his best to be a good man he doesn't always accomplish that. His sense of morally right and wrong have been skewed and sometimes, if he's angry enough, he flat out ignores his sense right and wrong unless his companion calls him out on it. He's killed, manipulated, and tricked people into killing themselves. In one of the who novels he deliberately tries to kill a man by setting a large bear like creature on him for participating in a very sick hunting game and then casually continues on his way to find his friends, he states that he's giving the man the one thing he never gave his victims-a chance, but it's clear later in the novel that he did not think the man would escape.

Endangering the Doctor's friends or those he'd considers family or loved ones is the fastest way to get the Doctor angry, as is threatening the planet earth where most of his companions have been from. It might be because he's now lost his home planet the Doctor sort of, unintentionally looks to the earth as a kind of new home as he seems to visit it the most often. His oldest and deadliest enemy, The Daleks, have noticed the Earth appears to be his greatest weakness and have successfully used it against him-knowing that he'd choose saving the Earth over ridding the universe of them.

The Doctor adores the human race for the simple reason they always manage to give him hope. He's seen where the human race has been and where it's going. He watched them touch and stars and met them at the end of the universe. While he has seen humanity at its worst he has also seen it at its best. To him the human race is like an infant just learning to crawl and he does everything he can to protect it from those that might see it destroyed. It's the planet he saves the most often because he loves watching the humans grow, as I said they always give him hope but along with that, they always make him better.

The Doctor doesn't mean to be, but definitely comes off as rude. He doesn't see things the way humans do, he feels every turn of the earth, he sees all that is, all that was, and all that could be-he doesn't see it nearly as strong as say, the TARDIS does, but he does have a fairly strong connection to the time vortex. He's so old and he sees so much at one time and there is so much happening in his head at all times he just doesn't always stop to consider the thoughts and feelings of those around him. He has his companions for that. He's also a lot less likely to be considerate to others when feeling the stress of a situation and rattling off information. He'll also take over situations without asking if he thinks he needs to. He thinks of himself as the highest authority and that he doesn't have anyone to answer to.

Another thing about the Doctor is that he loves learning about and experiencing new things. He's never not delighted to experience something he hasn't before or stumble across something he's never seen before. It doesn't matter if it's deadly dangerous, or something he knows he'll need to stop-if it's new he can't help but grin about it. Going as far as to start getting excited when he realised, for the first time, he had no idea what to do next.
